About fungal nails

Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) are common, especially in toenails. The nail can thicken, change colour and become brittle, which can make shoes press and nails difficult to trim at home.

Professional nail reduction relieves pressure, improves the look of the nail and makes it easier to treat. Toenails grow slowly, so improvement takes time and regular care.

Signs of a fungal nail

  • Yellow, white or brown discolouration
  • Nails that are thicker than usual
  • Crumbly or ragged edges
  • Nails lifting away from the skin
  • An unpleasant smell
  • Discomfort when wearing shoes

  • Keep feet clean and dry, especially between the toes

  • Don't share nail clippers, towels or shoes
  • Wear sandals in public showers and pool areas
  • Treat athlete's foot promptly, since it can spread to nails

FAQ

Questions about this treatment

More answers on our FAQ page, or call 868-323-2019.

Can you cure a fungal nail?

We manage fungal nails by reducing and trimming the nail and advising on home care. Some infections also need treatment prescribed by a doctor, and we'll tell you if we think yours does.

How long until my nail looks better?

Thinning gives an immediate improvement in comfort and appearance. Toenails grow slowly, so a healthier nail growing out takes months of regular care.

Is it contagious?

Fungal infections can spread, which is why we use sterilised instruments and single-use items for every client.
